Basic Yoga Facts for Beginnersto know

If you believe that you can learn yoga on a mat, you’re mistaken! Yoga education involves learning about oneself, one’s environment, and one’s life, most of which takes place off the mat.

Since the year 2000, I have studied, practiced, taught, and lived the yoga lifestyle. I continue to learn and develop from it every year, and as a result, my life also gets more exciting and meaningful. I have been observing the development of yoga in western culture for all these years, and I can see how (mainly) incorrectly it has been understood, taught, and performed. There is little information available about yoga’s practice, effects, and practical uses. Finding simplicity and significance in the midst of life’s complexity is the central tenet of yoga.

Even for those who practice it and for the majority of people who teach it, it does not appear to be so easy when we look around us. Everything about yoga is defined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the first yogic text.

And the value for learning yoga is in this essay, which highlights the importance of the aforementioned definition and demonstrates how to do it simply, effectively, and efficiently.

What is Yoga?

Yoga is the halting of fluctuations in awareness, according to the Sanskrit phrase Yoga-Citta-Vrtti-Hirodhah.

The 195 Sutras that make up the original yoga text are written in a highly condensed style with the intention of conveying a profound meaning and leaving plenty of room for interpretation. However, in order to avoid a significant deviation from the message, the interpreter must be extremely serious and skilled.

When the definition of yoga is properly understood and used, it explains how yoga should be performed and investigated. To begin properly, we must understand the goal of yoga, which is Kaivalya:[2] The union of oneself with the other and the universe.

How to reunite the body, mind, and soul is an issue that is raised by the well-known mainstream phrase “Union of Body, Mind, and Soul.”

Your thoughts are generated by the feelings that are sparked by external stimuli, therefore there is a connection between your body and mind. That makes perfect sense, no?

Now that the connection and thoughts have been made, the mind must serve and develop, enabling it to comprehend the soul and join it with the body and mind. Our path to the ultimate objective of yoga (Samadhi) is halted there, making the main component of the union difficult to comprehend and even more challenging to achieve.

More spiritual than physical, yoga

Yoga is more spiritual than physical because of this. Given that just seven out of 195 Sutras make physiological references to sitting and breathing, of which I spoke in my former piece on Yoga For Men, yoga is 97% of psychological, intellectual, and spiritual character and only around 3% of physiological.

However, there is a mental (emotional) component that needs to be learned and that is to create a link between the body and mind before experiencing any spirituality through yoga. How?

The simple understanding that you are aware of how your body feels (cold, warm, relaxed, depressed, anxious, pleased, and so on) indicates that your body and mind have become one. (The detailed exercise for that is below.)

But to connect with your soul, the best aspect of who you are, the Self:

To move past your physically and mentality, you must discover (through thought) what the subtlest element is that motivates your body and mind—you—as a person.

You employ the definition of yoga and the realization—the instant in which you are not processing any ideas or feelings—right here. This is a yoga condition, in which your consciousness has stopped identifying with the fluctuations of your body, mind, and soul.

Yoga as Individual Creativity and Expertise

In this situation, there isn’t a particular approach for learning yoga (such a beginner’s, intermediate, or advanced technique). Each of us experiences the state of yoga in a unique way due to the differences in our physical and mental makeup. Even if you have been executing the most challenging asanas for decades, you will still be unable and incapable of being in a state of unity with your body, mind, and soul. However, it is simpler and quicker to make that connection if you are a novice and have grace and other virtues.

Yoga is a natural element of being human, thus in order to navigate the yoga road successfully and effectively, you must first realize that yoga is not a performance technique but rather a reflection of your own creativity and knowledge.

Your learning process cannot be directed by, or influenced by, a particular manual, someone else’s instructions, or a particular school.

Yoga training requires you to use your imagination to search within, learn from yourself, and develop into an authority on your feelings, emotions, and desires. Although you may already have many attributes and requirements for uniting your body, mind, and soul as a beginner, your knowledge needs creativity for you to develop to the point of union and then to enjoy the benefits of that union. Once this occurs, there is no going back because the beauty and energy of your own existence will draw you.

Be Slow Physically and Fast Mentally

As was previously said, you are not required to do any physical feats, such as the split or headstand, in order to enter a deep state of meditation or Samadhi. But for your self-inquiry, you do need to be creative enough.

Many of my students begin their studies with meditation and focus on the intricacies of their thoughts because there is where the obstacles are. The ability to stop identifying with the fluctuations of consciousness can be worked on there. Intelligence develops, hardship ceases, and the person is prepared to transcend their bodily and mentality to achieve union with the soul.

However, if you’re a true novice and can’t begin there, you can begin developing your creativity on a body-mind level. The next paragraph includes the exercise.

The more creative you are, the more knowledgeable you are about yourself, and the more qualified you are to delve further into the union with your soul. Of course, having a more flexible and healthier physical body has some benefits and better prerequisites for that, but don’t give up hope—your body-mind union will pave the way.

As a result, you are now in a position to build on that union’s innovation. Please treat this seriously because it is an important component of learning yoga and discovering who you are.
